Was bedeutet es, «in transition» zu sein? Und könnte dieser Zustand, der eben nicht ein Stehen beschreibt, sondern ein Aufbrechen und darüber hinausgehen, ein sowohl als auch, ein noch nicht, aber bereits im, könnte dieser Vorgang, der sein Ziel womöglich noch nicht kennt, viel mehr das beschreiben, was das ist, oder, was das nicht ist: mein Körper? 

Zwischen Drag-Show, szenischer Skizze, Tanz- und Klangexperiment erzählt Joel Small die Geschichte einer Entität im Übergang und in konstantem Wandel – in bester Drag-Manier am Beispiel der Metamorphose eines Schmetterlings. Und so auch die autofiktive Geschichte eines Körpers, der immer wieder ausbricht aus den Kategorien, die über ihn gestülpt werden oder mit denen er sich selbst zu fassen sucht.

Joel Small ist ein australischer Regisseur, Choreograf, Tänzer und Drag-Artist und lebt in Berlin. In seinen Arbeiten unterläuft er gezielt Kategorien wie Pop- und Hochkultur, Subkultur und Mainstream, um sie in neuen Formen zu vereinigen. Zentral ist das Spiel mit und die Sabotage von binären Identitätsmerkmalen – mit dem Ziel, queere Körper und ihre Geschichten aus der Marginalisierung zu lösen und sichtbar zu machen. Nach dem Bachelor an der Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts war Joel Solist der Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company. Seit 2020 ist er freischaffend tätig, u. a. in Produktionen an der Deutschen Oper Berlin und auf Kampnagel, Hamburg. Im Drag-Character «Reflektra» performt er seit 2019 deutschlandweit und im Ausland. Zuletzt war Reflektra als Rusalka an der Stuttgarter Staatsoper zu sehen.

Marcus Peter Tesch ist Autor und Dramaturg. Zwischen Freier Szene und Stadttheater versucht er Arbeitsprozesse zu etablieren, die auf Care und Kollaboration beruhen. In seinen Projekten beschäftigt er sich mit der Neuerzählung und Sichtbarmachung queerer Geschichte(n) und setzt sich mit Klassismus und dessen Erzählbarkeit auf der Bühne auseinander. Studium der Angewandten Theaterwissenschaft in Gießen, dann Dramaturgieassistent und freier Dramaturg an der Schaubühne. Inszenierungen seiner Texte u. a. am Deutschen Theater, Berlin und dem Theater Rampe, Stuttgart. Seit 2020 Stipendiat des UniT Schreiblehrgangs FORUM Text. Konzeption und Leitung des Writers' Room beim Berliner Theatertreffen 2021 und 2022. 

Civic Grace ist das Pseudonym der in Berlin lebenden, australischen Produzentin Ashley Wright. Ihre künstlerische Praxis ist geprägt durch eine Karriere als Choreografin und Tänzerin. Mit dem starken Wunsch, für ihre eigene choreografische Arbeit zu komponieren, tauchte sie in die Musikproduktion ein und absolvierte 2018 einen Sounddesign-Kurs in Paris. Seitdem komponiert sie Musiken für Tanzperformances, Klanginstallationen und Filme. Sie tritt zudem live in Berlin und im Ausland auf und hat drei Soloalben veröffentlicht. 

isshehungry ist eine multimediale Drag-Performerin, Make-up-Artist und Model. Sie lebt in Berlin. Bekannt für ihre ausgefallene Drag-Ästhetik, tritt sie weltweit auf. Sie war make-up lead in Björks Utopia-Projekt, wurde in zahlreichen Mode- und Beauty-Publikationen gefeatured und lief auf Shows der New York Fashion Week und der Paris Fashion Week. Sie hat einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Modedesign der HTW Berlin und absolviert derzeit einen Master-Studiengang in Kostümdesign an der UdK Berlin.

Kim Walz arbeitet zwischen Performance, Choreografie, Bühne, Kostüm, Produktionsleitung und Dramaturgie – filmisch, digital und theatral. In seiner künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung experimentiert er mit mechanischen Gerätschaften, die als Impulsgeber für den Körper fungieren. Zentral ist die Suche nach einer Erzählweise, die Rezipient*innen jeglicher Sozialisierung ein Kunstwerk zugänglich macht. Als Produktionsleiter beschäftigt er sich vor allem mit der Nachhaltigkeit von Strukturen, dem ressourcenschonenden Handeln und der Diversität von Besetzungen. Er arbeitete am Theater Freiburg, Theater Basel, TD Berlin und an der Tanzfabrik Berlin.

reinkommen ist die jüngste Reihe des ada Studios. Sie gibt jungen Choreograf*innen die Möglichkeit, ihren Arbeitsprozess zu öffnen, das Publikum zum Reinkommen einzuladen und ins Gespräch zu kommen.

What does it mean to be «in transition»? And could this state, which does not describe a stationary state, but rather a stage of breaking open and going beyond, a stage that is both and, not yet but already within, could this process, which possibly does not yet know its destination, describe much more what it is, or what it is not: my body? 

Between drag show, scenic sketch, dance and sound experiment, Joel Small tells the story of an entity in transitions and constant change – in the best drag manner using the example of the metamorphosis of a butterfly. And thus also the autofictional story of a body that repeatedly breaks out of the categories that are put over it or with which it tries to define itself.

Joel Small is an Australian director, choreographer, dancer and drag artist living in Berlin. In his work he deliberately undermines categories such as pop and high culture, subculture and mainstream, in order to unite them in new forms. Central to his work is the play with and sabotage of binary identity features – with the aim of liberating queer bodies and their stories from marginalization and making them visible. After completing his Bachelor's degree at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Joel was a soloist with the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company. He has been freelancing since 2020, including productions at Deutsche Oper Berlin and Kampnagel, Hamburg. In the drag character "Reflektra", he has been performing throughout Germany and abroad since 2019. Most recently, Reflektra was seen as Rusalka at the Stuttgart State Opera.

Marcus Peter Tesch is an author and dramaturge. Between the independent scene and municipal theater, he tries to establish work processes based on care and collaboration. In his projects he deals with the retelling and making visible of queer history(s) and deals with classism and its narratability on stage. Studied applied theater studies in Giessen, then dramaturgy assistant and freelance dramaturg at the Schaubühne. Productions of his texts at the Deutsches Theater, Berlin and the Theater Rampe, Stuttgart, a. o. Since 2020 scholarship holder of the UniT writing course FORUM Text. Conception and management of the Writers' Room at the Berlin Theatertreffen 2021 and 2022. 

Civic Grace is the pseudonym of Berlin-based Australian producer Ashley Wright. Her artistic practice is informed by a career as a choreographer and dancer. With a strong desire to compose for her own choreographic work, she immersed herself in music production and completed a sound design course in Paris in 2018. Since then, she has been composing music for dance performances, sound installations and films. She also performs live in Berlin and abroad and has released three solo albums. 

isshehungry is a multimedia drag performer, makeup artist, and model, based in Berlin. Known for her distorted drag aesthetic, she has performed in venues across the globe, served as the makeup lead on Björk's Utopia project, been featured in numerous fashion and beauty publications, and walked in shows at New York Fashion Week and Paris Fashion week. She has a Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design from HTW Berlin University of Applied Sciences and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Costume Design at UdK Berlin University of the Arts.

Kim Walz works between performance, choreography, stage, costume, production management and dramaturgy – cinematic, digital and theatrical. In his artistic work, he experiments with mechanical devices that function as impulse generators for the body. Central to his practice is the search for a narrative method that makes a work of art accessible to recipients of any socialization. As a producer, he is primarily concerned with the sustainability of structures, resource-saving action and the diversity of occupations. He has worked at Theater Freiburg, Theater Basel, TD Berlin and Tanzfabrik Berlin.
